For many decades Mini owners have enjoyed seeing Glenys Price’s friendly, smiling face at Mini shows around the UK and Europe. Sadly she passed away on Friday 23 March, aged 70.
Glenys and her husband of 48 years, Mike, are well known for their Mini parts business called Mini World, based in the Midlands. They very graciously let a certain magazine copy the name when it launched back in 1991 and have been friends to the magazine and its staff ever since.
Glenys was kind, thoughtful, gentlse and a very hard worker. As well as a love of Minis, she also gave much of her spare time to a local Scout group. For over 20 years Glenys was Secretary of Birmingham Mini Owners Club and, together with Mike, they and the club put on the brilliant 2009 International Mini Meet and Mini 50 events.
Glenys enjoyed travelling to International Mini Meets and other Mini events around Europe, including a number of trips to Ireland, and made many friends along the way, some of whom have paid tribute to her with these lovely words:

Glenys and Mike were regular visitors to Ireland. She always had a smile on her face and a friendly chat whenever you would meet her. Mike and Glenys were one of the great Mini couples, always seen together and we send our sincere condolences to Mike and their children Elliot and Allison.
Billy Mulqueen, Irish MOC, IMM 2017 Ireland organiser
She was a very sweet person. I met her in 2009 when I stopped at the entrance of the IMM, there was so much mud and I pointed out a different entry. I promised that in Italy we would have found the sun for our IMM. I’m still sad for not having satisfied her but maybe now she has found it. I think the whole Mini family is sad at losing her.
Francesco Marziali (IMM Italy 2013 organiser)
I was devastated to hear the sad news about Glenys Price. From my memories of first attending Mini shows I can remember her cheerful face behind the counter of their trade stand, the lady with the amazing knowledge of all the parts. She always had the kettle on – where am I going to go now to rest my legs at shows, sitting and having a natter and a cuppa? Memories of Partying at IMMs, late nights, with her chastising Mike for misbehaving, but secretly chuckling at his antics. Being welcomed into their home when I helped them out with the website for the Birmingham IMM. She was a real grafter, organising behind the scenes at Cofton Park, then seeing her all dressed up at the IMM after party. My husband Alan and I had great fun sharing a cottage with them and sitting round the campfire at an Irish camping weekend. A truly lovely lady. Sincere condolences to Mike and their lovely family.
Kay Drury, MiniWorld magazine
As the Mini community is one big family scattered around the world, Glenys was the Mom that we wish we lived closer too. We will so much miss her infectious smile, hugs and charming personality.
Mike Guido, Classic Minis United, USA
I met Glenys as a fellow trader many years ago. She was always there to talk to, offer support and have a giggle with. She always made me feel special and was a truly lovely lady to be around. Mini shows have lost a star and she will be deeply missed.
Emma Slocombe, IMM 2019 organiser
Such a wonderful lady who, with Mike, I have know for almost two decades. My thoughts are with Mike and the family at this very sad time as I know how much they meant to each other. They were a great team. She will be missed by everyone who met and chatted with her. Thinking of you Mike.
I was very saddened to her about her passing. Both she and Mike always had lots of advice for Joe and I from the very start of our IMM adventure even though Mike was involved in the street art in Switzerland that started it all! She was a lovely, warm woman who always had a smile and, I think, behind it all she was the boss of Mike. She was tough and I often saw her unpacking and packing up the van at shows and, if Mike was looking for a part or a price Glenys knew it off the top of her head. It never bothered her to go camping and to take on an IMM when they did shows. They were a great match for each other and I think poor Mike will be lost without her. I loved her thick Brummie accent as well.
Aidan McGrath, Irish MOC, IMM 2017 Ireland organiser
I met Glenys at the IMM in Denmark. Always smiling, always a happy person. She always had time for a chat, advice, and definitely a big hug. She will be missed.
Peggy Ponsen, Girl Power Mini Club
Glenys was such a nice and friendly person the world and the Mini scene will be an unhappier place. I myself will miss her very much.
Kevin Card, Mini Cooper Club
Glenys was one of our traders at the L2B for many years with her husband Mike. She always had great smile and a warm nature. One of the nicest people you could have ever met at a Mini show. The Mini world will be at a loss without her.
Jono Eales, L2B organisers, London & Surrey MOC
I met Glenys for the first time in Switzerland in 2011, the year I opened my mouth about hosting the IMM and, funnily enough, both her and Mike were the masterminds behind it. That weekend they approached me about coming to Ireland to attend a camping weekend we were hosting. From the day she arrived to my house in Roscommon, we were friends. She was a true lady, with an unquenchable passion for life, for the Mini, and most of all for Mike. She always met me with a smile and a huge hug. It’s hard to believe she won’t be in Portugal for the IMM where, regardless of the antics she would be one of the last to be put to bed. There is no doubt, her legend will live on and she will never be forgotten.
Joe Whyte, Irish MOC IMM 2017 Ireland organiser
